| INTERACT CHALET 25-26 NOVEMBER! |
[20 Nov 2008|10:38pm] |
Date: 25 November 2008 - 26 November 2008 Meeting time and place: 1.45 pm (25 November) Pasir Ris MRT Chalet : Aloha Changi Netheravon Chalet Block D
Looking for something to do as an I-group during the holidays?
We will be having FUN activities during the afternoon before the BBQ.
The BBQ will commence from 6pm onwards, however, there will be no shuttle service from Pasir Ris during that period of time. Hence for those who can only come for the BBQ, they must make their way to Tampines MRT to take bus service 29. The last shuttle bus leaves the chalet at around 9.15 pm. However, there is a bus stop just outside our compound hence it is very convenient.
Those who are coming for the chalet MUST submit a consent form signed by their parents to indicate if they are staying over.
We would also have a christmas present exchange on that day, so bring along a small present. Also, we would be collecting 10 dollars from all members for Club Fund.
Hope to see you all there! Interact Club

| General Meeting on 29th October 2008 |
[26 Oct 2008|04:33pm] |
Dear Interactors,
There will be a GM this coming Wednesday (29th October), 3pm at LT1.
Your I-Group leaders should have contacted you regarding upcoming projects that you would need to sign up for, and here are the details in case you need help deciding! Remember to list your choices in order of preference and submit them to your I-group leaders ASAP so you can meet your new committees on Wednesday and start the exciting planning :D Also, do indicate if you'd like to be involved in more than one project.
While these projects will have EXCO members as overall heads, all the sub-comm heads will not be from EXCO, so this is your chance to lead a committee in the project of your choice! Also, take note that when you have been allocated to a project, it just means that you'll be heavily involved in the planning and execution processes of it, but you WILL be able to participate in all the execution of other projects as well, so don't worry about that! (:
WELCOME TO THE INTERACT PROJECT SHOP: PRICE FOR ALL PROJECTS WOULD BE YOUR COMMITMENT & TIME, BUT WHAT YOU GET BACK IN TURN IS PRICELESS SATISFACTION :D
1. Orientation Camp (headed by Felix)
21st February 2009, full-day camp
Remember the exciting murder mystery we had to solve during orientation camp early this year? Did you enjoy the exciting games like the one where we had to dip our heads in a bucket full of shampoo, or the one where we laughed at the baby pictures of the 23rd EXCO? Wish you could plan even more amusing games? If you're someone who likes adventure and having fun while inducting our juniors into the club, THIS IS THE PROJECT FOR YOU (:
2. March Camp (headed by Vic-Ki & Lily)
16th March 2009, full-day camp
Do you miss the hyper kids whom you played with during March Camp this year? Have you secretly been keeping your group flag in your home and admiring it every day? Want to be involved in the planning process? If you love the kids at your commserve to bits and want to spend an entire day with them playing cool games that you've planned, then THIS IS THE PROJECT FOR YOU (:
3. RJCollaboration (headed by Eugene)
18th April 2009 (tentative), full-day art workshop
Would you like to be part of this new initiative? We'll be conducting a full-day art workshop where you'll be working with a group of kids from a children's home to teach them expression through art. Not only would you be able to learn a lot as you'd get to go through training sessions on art therapy, you would also be able to have a lot of fun planning the event for kids! They'd be drawing on tiles, after which some of the tiles may be sold for charity purposes. As this is still in developmental stages, if you think you have lots of creativity and enthusiasm to spare, THIS IS THE PROJECT FOR YOU (:
4. IU Week (headed by Jia Yee)
4-8th May 2009, one week worth of exciting events!
In the true spirit of International Action, this would be a truly large-scale event which would promote International Understanding in the school and also serve as publicity for our very cool club :D If you're passionate about international events and wish you could do more about raising awareness, do consider this project! Throughout the planning process, you'd be in contact with NGOs & VWOs to get them to participate in our fair, and generally learning a lot more about other countries' cultures, politics and everything you'd like to find out more about! If you think you're up to the challenge of planning such a large-scale and exciting event, THIS IS THE PROJECT FOR YOU (:
We hope that you're sufficiently hyped up about the upcoming projects for the year ahead, because it'd definitely be a very meaningful time for all of us :D

| Concluding Stand Up, Take Action |
[20 Oct 2008|07:08am] |
Dear Interactors,
Here's a big THANK YOU to all of you who have generously contributed half an hour/ an hour/ two hours of your time to Stand Up, Take Action! (: Whether you helped to make the noticeboards, went around the class benches promoting or shouted yourselves hoarse as you tried to get people to take pledges, you have contributed to this WORLDWIDE CAUSE :D
To conclude this event, we have successfully procured 262 pledges in one day (: It's a very, very remarkable number, considering that all these pledgers were completely voluntary and we didn't make up any names/numbers.
Thank you so much once again!
-Kellie

| Stand Up, Take Action |
[12 Oct 2008|10:50pm] |
Dear Interactors,
Stand Up, Take Action is happening this Friday, 17th October, in Hwa Chong as well as all over the world!
What is Stand Up, Take Action (SUTA) all about? It's basically a worldwide movement aiming to pressure world leaders & governments to take action and provide aid to reduce poverty. Currently, 50 000 people die from extreme poverty each day & 50% of the world lives in poverty. In 2001, world leaders from 186 countries signed an agreement to halve this number by 2015 and to completely eradicate poverty by 2025, however they are far from meeting these targets. By STANDING UP, campaigners hope to speak out against poverty and inequality to pressure governments to take action. Last year, 43.7million people around the world stood up against poverty & we hope to break that record this year. (More information can be found here and here.)
What can YOU do? This project is a collaboration between the SUTA team in Hwa Chong & Interact Club, because after all, what other event screams "International Action" more than this one?
As an Interactor, you can involve yourself in this project in a big way! We would be setting up a booth in the canteen on Friday for members of the school population to take their pledge (refer below), and you can help out and make a difference just by contributing an hour or two of your time to this cause!
You could either: 1. Man the canteen booth and noticeboard to generate awareness of the campaign and help people to take their pledge 2. Go around the class benches with attractive sandwich boards to raise more awareness as well as to kachiao people to take their pledge in the canteen!
Sign up for duty by entering your name here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pVZ8K6H3EWLuxSxpZSvx2bw SMS Kellie at 82010700 with your duty & timeslot as well, just in case the system doesn't work.
Why should you do this? By helping to generate awareness, you make the cause worthwhile & by making your voice heard, world leaders will start to take action. Every 3.5 seconds, a child dies from extreme poverty. You can change this.

THANK YOU I-group 1, for sacrificing so many of your recess and lunch times in order to sell tickets, for working so hard to push ticket sales & ensuring a full house for the concert!
THANK YOU I-group 2, for volunteering to do ice-cream sales, as well as sacrificing your weekend before math lecture test to host the UK people, and for putting up with stifling blazers and ushering for an entire night!
THANK YOU I-group 3, for organising the entire socialisation time, from buying the balls to preparing the presentations and procuring the songs and games instructions, etc. The UK people really, really enjoyed the programme :D
THANK YOU I-group 4, for the extremely beautiful publicity materials and for handling the meals on the day itself (:
THANK YOU I-group 5, for the amazing effort in fundraising, what with packaging the nachos and having to painstakingly squeeze cheese out of the giant packets! Special thanks to Natalie for taking over as fundraising I/C :D
THANK YOU I-group 6, also for the fantastic publicity materials and for helping out with logistics during the concert itself! Special thanks to Yuhui for agreeing to be stage manager :D
THANK YOU I-group 7, as mentioned in I-group 2's thank-you note above, for sacrificing your weekend before math lecture test to host the UK people, and for putting up with stifling blazers and ushering for an entire night!
